If you’re anything like me, there have been times that you question your purpose and what God has called you to do.  We see ourselves through the lenses of insecurity, self-doubt, and our past mistakes. God has not called us to have such a myopic view. Our Father knows the end from the beginning, and the plans that He has for us is dynamic, ever progressing. 

In this walk, we are not alone; the Bible provides many examples of those who didn’t see themselves as God sees them; they didn’t see themselves as qualified. Moses was used mightily by God, yet he didn’t think he could fulfill the assignment. He said to the LORD, “I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue. And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man’s mouth? Or who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? Have not I the LORD? Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say” Exodus 4:10-12.  Even after the LORD told Moses that He would be with him and that He is the one who created his mouth, he still doubted and wanted someone to speak in his stead. This angered the LORD, and in turn, Aaron (Moses’ brother) was chosen to be the spokesman, but that wasn’t the LORD’s initial plan.  You may be called to do great exploits or be used to speak to nations and not feel capable. Honestly, you’re not. Nope!!  You’re not able to -that is in your strength. God qualifies the called, and in our consistent union and obedience to Him is how we become equipped to walk in purpose.

Take Gideon, for example; the children of Israel had done evil in the sight of the LORD and were delivered into the hands of the Midianites. Even the Amalekites and the children of the east came up against them and destroyed their crops. Israel was impoverished as a result and cried out to the LORD. The LORD raised up a prophet to remind the children of Israel how He had delivered them from their oppressors in the past. (Isn’t it just like us to forget how the Father has delivered us). The Angel of the LORD came and sat down to converse with Gideon and said to him, “The LORD is with you, O brave man.” The Word of God says to call those things that are not as though they were. Gideon was fearful, yet the LORD called him brave! Gideon was also confused and couldn’t comprehend why they experienced such turmoil if God was with them. The LORD responded and told him to go forth and save Israel from the hands of the enemy. Gideon immediately replied how he was from the least significant family. Our genealogy and familial dysfunction doesn’t negate the call of God on our life. The LORD reassured him that He would be with him. Just like us, Gideon let his insecurity cloud the word he received from the LORD. Gideon needed confirmation, and God obliged. I think it’s essential to seek the LORD and ask for confirmation, but it behooves us not to become paralyzed by fear of taking a step. We must step out on faith. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” Romans 8:14.

Are you going to walk in all that God has called to you, too, or are you going to let insecurity, doubt, and fear hold you back? Decide to obey God and allow him to qualify you.

Father, it’s in the name of Jesus that we come before you. Father, we ask you to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We thank you for your faithfulness and mercy. Father, we ask that you give unto us a spirit of wisdom and revelation. As we read your word, Father allows us to see ourselves as you see us-cause the eyes of hearts to be flooded with light. As we continue to walk with you, we trust that you will empower us to fulfill our purpose in you.  For those who don’t know you, I pray that they would come into the knowledge of the truth and understand that you, Jesus are the way the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through you! We love you and praise you in Jesus’ name.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. The words that we speak frame our lives. Our words have power. By words, God spoke the world into existence. Genesis 1:1-3 “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the water. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” He spoke, and it was so. When we speak God’s word, it will be so. Ask yourself, what am I saying? Am I engaging in negative talk? Am I speaking words that align with God’s purpose and word? Or am I speaking things contrary to what I desire.  Be mindful of what you’re saying, listen intently to your words, and I’m sure you’d be surprised by what is coming out of your mouth. Begin to take inventory of your words. Don’t speak scarcity and expect prosperity. Don’t speak sickness when you want health. Speak what you want.  Sometimes we’re a product of words that were spoken to us and over our lives. You may have grown up in a household where someone constantly berated you. Maybe your parents were condemning and negative. Perhaps you’ve listened to the voices of countless others around you who have spoken word curses over you. Today, cancel those word curses spoken over your life and commit to speaking God’s word!

I’ve spoken word curses over myself and even agreed with those negative words spoken to me by others.  I’ve also struggled with people-pleasing for most of my life (resulting from rejection). However, I’ve realized that you will never succeed in pleasing people because it’s an endless cycle.  Recognize that individuals have internal wars that they’re fighting that have absolutely nothing to do with you; it’s not personal.  Our job is to please God. We can and should assist and be a blessing to others but never to the point where we’re doing things to be accepted. Repeat after me: I’m Accepted in the Beloved.! I’m Accepted in the Beloved.”

Words matter! It’s not what others say about you that truly matters; it’s what you say about you that has an impact on your life. Speak life over yourself and your situations!!! Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Be mindful of what you say about yourself and others! Proverbs 18:21. In Matthew 12:36, it says, “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” Choose your words wisely and speak life.

Father, it’s in the name of Jesus that we come before you. We thank you for life, for strength, and for a sound mind. We ask you to empower us by the Holy Spirit and help us be conscious of our words and actions. Let us live a life that’s pleasing to you. We love you! In Jesus’ name, we pray.
